Volunteering for Home-Start
Our Volunteers come from all walks of life, and are usually parents themselves. They are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach, and understanding. These home-visiting volunteers are the heart of our organisation. Our volunteers visit and meet parents at home, giving emotional and practical help. These volunteers must have parenting experience and, before they are matched with a family, go through a ten-week training programme.
Our volunteers, who have parenting experience themselves, can offer:
- Precious time for listening and talking
- Help with the children
- A break for parents
- Practical help and reassurance
- A chance to meet other parents in the same boat
- Support to use local services and resources
We also have volunteers who help run our local Home-Start schemes. They come from different backgrounds with different skills which will support the management of Schemes:
- General business management
- Financial and legal expertise
- IT knowledge
- Human resources experience
- PR & media skills
The volunteers who manage our schemes are called trustees and they also undergo
a special preparation for their role with Home-Start.
